Ten Days to Launch: Building Front Line Academy & Apparel’s Commerce and Training Platform
Project led by Talha Naseer, directing a distributed team of senior engineers through design and implementation.
The brief for Front Line Academy and Apparel landed on December 20, 2024. Work began the next day, with ten days on the clock to take the platform from a blank page to a live storefront before New Year’s Eve. What started as a holiday deadline became the opening chapter of a platform that would grow, six months later, into a complete training academy.

The Challenge
Selling premium tactical gear alongside in person self defense and deescalation training is not the same business as selling a single product line. A customer buying a tactical vest and a training course needed to check out once, not twice. Anything short of a fully unified experience risked losing exactly the customers most likely to spend the most.
Complicating the ask further was the calendar. The brief landed on December 20, 2024, four days before Christmas, with work beginning the following day against an unmovable target, a live landing page by New Year’s Eve. The date mattered commercially, not just symbolically. Interest in personal safety and readiness training climbs every January, and a platform that missed that window would spend months competing for attention instead of capturing it from day one. Layered on top of the deadline was a payment problem, tactical gear and course bundles are considered purchases, not impulse buys, and asking customers to pay in full upfront risked losing the buyers with the highest intent.
The Approach
Designing Before Building
With ten days on the clock, guessing was not an option. The team ran a complete Figma design pass first, mapping every step of the customer journey, browsing gear, enrolling in a class, checking out a mixed cart, before writing a single line of code. That upfront alignment meant development time went toward building an approved plan, not negotiating a moving target midstream.
A Backend Built for Day One and Year Three
The platform runs on a fully serverless AWS backend, AWS Cognito handles authentication, DynamoDB stores all user data, and AWS Lambda serves every API call. For a business with no revenue on day one, that combination meant no infrastructure bill sitting idle while the first customers trickled in, and no ceiling to hit if the first month became the first thousand. Product images and video lecture content are delivered through Amazon S3, built to carry a media library from zero to a full seven course catalog without ever becoming the bottleneck.
One Cart, Not Two
Every checkout on the platform, whether it holds a tactical vest, a training course, or both, runs through a single unified cart. Splitting commerce and enrollment into two systems would have doubled the engineering surface area and given customers two separate chances to abandon a purchase instead of one. A custom Stripe integration layered on top adds Affirm and Klarna as payment options, letting a customer split a larger purchase into four monthly payments instead of walking away from the price tag entirely.
Shipping in Public, on Schedule
The build shipped in four disciplined phases, each one earning the next.
Phase 1
Landing page design and initial deployment
Dec 21 to 31, 2024
Phase 2
Remaining pages and backend development
Jan 1 to 27, 2025
Phase 3
Full functionality and API testing
Jan 28 to Feb 10, 2025
Phase 4
Quality assurance and production launch
Feb 11 to Mar 12, 2025
The landing page came first, not because it was the most complex piece, but because a live storefront mattered more on launch day than a fully wired backend running behind the scenes. The final phase deliberately built in time for AWS SES email approval, a slow moving dependency far more costly to discover after go live than before it. Front Line Academy and Apparel officially exited test mode on March 12, 2025.
A Second Act, From Storefront to Academy
Rather than build the full learning platform alongside the store, the team shipped commerce first and let it start earning immediately. Between May 15 and June 29, 2025, a second phase, six weeks start to finish, added seven complete courses, video lectures, reading materials, quizzes, and automatic certification on completion. By then, the platform had real customers and real behavior to build against, not assumptions made months earlier.
The Results
A live landing page in ten days. A fully operational commerce platform in under three months. A complete seven course academy in six weeks. More than 1,000 users onboarded, more than $10,000 in revenue in year one, and a year two that has, on average, outpaced it every month since. Uptime has held at roughly 99.9 percent since launch, the kind of reliability a security focused brand cannot afford to compromise on.
